The largest flow on the truck, feeding the lift cylinder. Hose runs over rollers and sheaves through the full stroke, so bend radius and cover wear at the sheave contact point decide its life.

Symptom · mast hose failing at the same point every time

Sheave chafe and bend-radius violation

Mast hoses travel over rollers through the full lift stroke. The failure is almost never random, it is at the sheave contact point or where the bend radius is tighter than the hose allows.

Specify against it: Compact-outside-diameter constructions and small-bend-radius types exist for exactly this. EN 857 1SC and 2SC and SAE 100R17 are the families to specify.

Symptom · truck lifts more slowly, or will not hold the load

Fluid loss reducing lift capacity

In material handling a leak is a performance fault before it is a housekeeping one. Lost fluid shows up as reduced load-lift capacity and rough operation, not just as a stain on the floor.

Specify against it: O-ring sealed joint families rather than tapered metal-to-metal, and correct hold valves in the tilt and lift circuits.

Zero leak tolerance indoors

In a warehouse, cold store, food or pharma distribution centre, oil on the floor is a slip hazard and an audit finding, not an inconvenience. Tapered threads in a vibrating circuit weep as a matter of course.

Specify against it: Specify O-ring face seal or 24° cone with O-ring rather than tapered NPT or BSPT wherever the joint is indoors.

Contamination ingress

Every hose change in the field is an ingress event. Particles at 4 µm and above attack proportional and servo elements; 6 µm and above accelerates pump and cylinder wear.

Specify against it: ISO 4406 codes cleanliness at ≥4, ≥6 and ≥14 µm. Cap and plug on the bench, and fit isolation ball valves so a hose can be changed without draining.

Symptom · assemblies failing early on a machine that is barely used

Assemblies aged out on the shelf

Rubber ages whether or not the machine runs. Bulk hose sitting in a workshop and assemblies fitted to seasonally used equipment both quietly pass their service life.

Specify against it: DIN 20066 practice: bulk hose no more than four years old at assembly, assemblies not beyond six years in service, of which storage should not exceed two years.

Symptom · joint weeps under load, tightening does not help

Thread family mismatch

BSP and NPT share the same 1:16 taper but different thread form angles, 55° against 60°. In many common sizes they screw together and look correct, then leak under pressure. BSPP seals on a bonded washer against the port face, not on the threads.

Specify against it: Identify the port family before ordering. A JIC 37° cone must never go into an SAE J1926 ORB port, they share a thread form but seal completely differently.

Why does my forklift mast hose keep failing at the same point?

Because that point is where the hose passes over a sheave or is bent tighter than its minimum radius. Mast hoses travel over rollers through the full lift stroke, so the wear is concentrated rather than spread. Compact-outside-diameter constructions to EN 857 1SC or 2SC, and small-bend-radius types such as SAE 100R17, exist specifically for this routing.

Why is my forklift lifting more slowly than it used to?

Reduced lift performance and rough operation are commonly a fluid loss symptom rather than a pump problem. In material handling a leak shows up as lost load-lift capacity first. Check the joints in the lift and tilt circuits before assuming a major component has failed.

What holds a forklift mast from drifting down?

Two separate things, and they are often confused. Load-holding in the tilt and lift circuits is done by check valves, typically pilot-operated. Protection against a sudden line failure is done by a velocity fuse fitted in the lift cylinder. Both are safety-relevant, so neither is a place to improvise on specification.

Which fittings should I use on equipment that works indoors?

O-ring sealed families rather than tapered metal-to-metal. O-ring face seal to ISO 8434-3 and the 24 degree cone with O-ring to ISO 8434-1 seal on an elastomer rather than on thread interference, which is what you want where a weep becomes a slip hazard and an audit finding.

How do I tell a BSP fitting from an NPT fitting?

Both are tapered at the same 1:16 rate, but the thread form angle differs, 55° for BSP and 60° for NPT. In several common sizes they will screw together and appear correct, then weep under pressure because contact is incomplete. BSPP, by contrast, is a parallel thread that seals on a bonded seal against the port face, so without that washer it will not seal at any torque.

Do you supply hose for scissor lift tables and dock levellers?

We supply the hose, the fittings and the relief, check and needle valves that sit around a self-contained power pack. Send the working pressure, flow rate, port standard and the descent rate behaviour you need and we will confirm what we can hold against it.

How often should hoses on a dock leveller be replaced?

Dock levellers and lift tables are long-life fixed assets, so their hoses quietly pass their service life while the equipment still works. DIN 20066 practice is the usual reference: assemblies not beyond six years in service from date of manufacture, with bulk hose no more than four years old at the time of assembly.

Can I put a JIC fitting into an ORB port?

No. JIC to SAE J514 and ORB to SAE J1926 share the same UN/UNF thread form but seal completely differently. JIC seals on a 37° metal cone; ORB seals on an O-ring compressed against a machined boss face. Assembling one into the other will not seal reliably and can damage the port.

Can Velqor supply against a drawing or a sample?
