External abrasion

Hose rubbing on hose, on structure, and on the ground. Once the cover is breached the reinforcement corrodes and burst follows, usually well before the assembly's rated life.

Specify against it: Cover abrasion resistance is measured to ISO 6945. Routing, clamping and abrasion protection are covered by SAE J1273.

Thread chaos on the shop floor

A single body-builder can face NPT on North American chassis, BSP on Asian pumps and valves, JIC on hose ends, ORB on pump and valve ports, and metric 24° cone on European valve blocks. Cross-threading a JIC nut into an ORB port is a frequent, leak-generating mistake.

Specify against it: JIC to SAE J514 and ORB to SAE J1926 share the same UN/UNF thread form but seal completely differently, 37° metal cone against an O-ring on a boss face. They are not interchangeable.

Relative motion across the subframe

The chassis flexes against the body under load and over rough ground. Any hose crossing that interface sees movement the rest of the circuit never does, and it fails first.

Specify against it: Route with the movement, clamp either side of it, and leave the correct slack. SAE J1273 covers routing and clamping practice; SAE J343 covers minimum bend radius.

Cycle fatigue on tail-lifts and locks

Liftgates, hook-lift locks and tarp systems run at modest pressure but enormous cycle counts. The hose fails by flex fatigue and cover cracking long before anything approaches a burst rating.

Specify against it: Specify by impulse grade rather than by pressure alone. ISO 18752 defines grades A to D by impulse cycles at a stated temperature and pressure.

Mismatched hose and ferrule

Assemblies built from one maker's hose and another maker's ferrule and fitting compromise coupling retention. Major manufacturers restrict their crimp data to their own combinations and disclaim liability otherwise.

Specify against it: Keep hose, ferrule and fitting from one matched series, at the correct crimp diameter.

Contamination ingress

Every hose change in the field is an ingress event. Particles at 4 µm and above attack proportional and servo elements; 6 µm and above accelerates pump and cylinder wear.

Specify against it: ISO 4406 codes cleanliness at ≥4, ≥6 and ≥14 µm. Cap and plug on the bench, and fit isolation ball valves so a hose can be changed without draining.

What is the difference between a main relief valve and a circuit relief valve on a tipper?

They protect different things and are routinely confused. The main relief sits in the inlet section and protects the pump from over-pressure. A circuit relief protects the cylinder in a specific circuit. Fitting the wrong one, or setting one and assuming it covers both jobs, is a common and expensive mistake on tipper and dump-body hydraulics.

Which hose should I use on a tipper hoist circuit?

The hoist feed is a flexible run from a chassis-mounted valve to a moving body, so it needs to tolerate flex and abrasion against the subframe more than it needs an exotic pressure rating. Two-wire braid to EN 853 2SN is the common construction, with compact braid to EN 857 2SC where the subframe leaves no room for a standard outside diameter.

Can I put a JIC fitting into an ORB port?

No. JIC to SAE J514 and ORB to SAE J1926 share the same UN/UNF thread form but seal completely differently. JIC seals on a 37° metal cone; ORB seals on an O-ring compressed against a machined boss face. Assembling one into the other will not seal reliably and can damage the port.

Why do hydraulic hoses on dump trucks keep bursting?

Usually not for the reason people assume. The three real causes are abrasion where the hose rubs the body or subframe, relative motion where the hose crosses the chassis-to-body interface, and routing that violates the minimum bend radius so the inner tube cracks. SAE J1273 covers routing and clamping; SAE J343 covers minimum bend radius.

How do I tell a BSP fitting from an NPT fitting?

Both are tapered at the same 1:16 rate, but the thread form angle differs, 55° for BSP and 60° for NPT. In several common sizes they will screw together and appear correct, then weep under pressure because contact is incomplete. BSPP, by contrast, is a parallel thread that seals on a bonded seal against the port face, so without that washer it will not seal at any torque.

Can you supply a complete wet-kit hose and fitting set?

We supply the hose, the fittings and the valves. Send the pump and valve port standards, hose lengths, end types and working pressure and we will confirm what we can hold against it. Where a component in the kit is outside our range we will say so rather than substitute something and hope.

What causes tail-lift hoses to fail when the pressure is low?

Cycle count, not pressure. Liftgates and hook-lift locks run at modest pressure but cycle enormously, so the hose fails by flex fatigue and cover cracking rather than by burst. Specifying by impulse grade under ISO 18752 reflects that duty far better than a pressure rating alone.

Do you supply BSP to NPT adapters for truck hydraulics?

Yes. Mixed-origin chassis, pumps and valve blocks mean BSP, NPT, JIC, ORB and metric 24 degree cone all turn up on one build. Adapters and reducers across those families are a core part of our range. Send the port standard on both sides and the pressure rating.

Can Velqor supply against a drawing or a sample?

Yes, and that is the normal route. Share a drawing, a specification or a sample and we confirm dimensions, material, thread standard and pressure rating in writing before production. Where a requirement is beyond what we can reliably hold, we say so at that point rather than after the order.
